The Seward girls’ soccer team entered postseason play on the heels of a 1-2 week of competition.

The Jays opened the week with a 2-0 win over Nebraska City in a game that was rescheduled from earlier in the season. Seward hosted Columbus Lakeview April 23 and lost in a shootout 2-1. Haylie Sloup scored the Bluejays’ goal off an assist from Kennedy Limback.

Ava Fisher scored a goal in the shootout.

“We didn’t convert our chances,” Coach Nick Holmes said.

The regular season ended April 25 at Grand Island Northwest in a 4-0 loss.

“We had a good game plan, and we executed it well,” Holmes said. “We limited their chances as best we could. But we made mistakes that cost us goals.”

He was pleased to see the Jays make things difficult for the Vikings all game long.

“They struggled to solve the problems we threw at them,” he said.

Seward (9-7) was to play Beatrice April 29 in the first round of subdistricts at Norris. The winner advances to April 30’s final. The Jays defeated Beatrice 1-0 but lost to Norris 5-0 to end the season.
