First Bank of Utica is working to establish a new branch location in Friend.
The bank has filed an application to open the new branch with the Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance.
"Those applications can take up to 90 days," Larry Rogers, First Bank of Utica executive vice president, said.
He said the timeline for the new branch opening depends on when the application moves through.
Jim Liggett, chairman and president of First Bank of Utica, said the Friend branch will open a loan processing office first and then become a full-service bank branch after that.
"We have been serving customers in the Friend area for years and this will allow us to offer convenience to existing customers in Friend and Cordova," he said. "Our long-term plan will be to continue to serve the Seward, York and Saline county area. We are a community-oriented bank and intend to focus our energies and resources toward meeting the needs of customers in farming communities. That is what we do."
First Bank of Utica currently has the Utica bank and a branch in Cordova.
