Donald Minzel
Donald Minzel
Donald Dean Minzel, 78, died July 12, 2010, at Lincoln.

Mr. Minzel was born Oct. 23, 1931, at rural Emerald to Harry Reinhold and Katie S. (Busboom) Minzel.

He attended rural School District 80.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War from 1951-1955.

On Sept. 5, 1953, he married Elsie Neva Frahm at Parks Air Force Base in Pleasanton, Calif.

The Minzels farmed in the Emerald area since December of 1955.

Mr. Minzel was a former volunteer with the Malcolm Fire Department, served on the District 80 School Board, was a member of the Emerald Elevator Board and was the county manager for Archer Oil Company for 34 years. He was also a member of Pleasant Dale American Legion Post 354 and VFW Post 131 in Lincoln. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Lincoln.

Mr. Minzel was preceded in death by his brother Virgil Minzel; brothers-in-law George Brodie and Glen, Walter, Henry and Alan Frahm; sister-in-law Dorothy Gohde; and nephew Kevin Minzel.

Survivors include his wife Elsie, rural Lincoln; daughters and sons-in-law Donna and Bruce Schulz, Lincoln, and Marilyn and Ron Robinson, Lincoln; sons and daughters-in-law Larry and Teri Minzel, rural Lincoln, Arlan and Tammy Minzel, Lincoln, and Kenneth and Kristie Minzel, rural Lincoln; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in law and brothers-in law Martha Brodie, Viola and Gene Murray, Albert and Jackie Frahm, Russell Frahm, Reed Frahm and George Gohde; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Service was July 15, 2010, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Lincoln, with the Rev. Andrew W. Kitzing officiating.

Casketbearers were Justin Schulz, Joshua Schulz, Nicholas Minzel, Travis Minzel, Marcus Minzel, Brennan Minzel and Mavrick Minzel.

Honorary casketbearers were Natalie Sehi, Jessica Schwab, Melissa Robinson, Kassee Minzel and Brooklyn Minzel.

Burial was at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery with full military honors by Pleasant Dale American Legion Post 354.
