Area departments respond to Interstate activity

Minutes after Pleasant Dale Fire returned to the station from working an accident spurred by an eastbound high-speed pursuit on Interstate 80 at mile marker 385, fire fighters were called to mile marker 383 for a field fire. A van traveling west lost a tire and started the fire, which spread into a cornfield approximately five to seven acres. Pleasant Dale responded with two grass rigs, each holding 250 gallons of water. Assistant Chief Roger Michaelis said the fire line was about three quarters of a mile long and in a U shape. Milford Fire assisted in fighting the blaze.
