The Seward Fourth of July Celebration Committee will conduct its next Seward Fourth of July Celebration Festival meeting Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m. at the Nebraska National Guard Museum in Seward. The meeting is open to all interested in volunteering to assist with an aspect of the annual Seward Fourth of July Festival on July 4. The Seward County Historical Society Museum in Goehner is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1:30 – 5 p.m.
The Seward County Genealogical Society is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Fridays from 3 – 5 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or by appointment. After vaulting into a tie for third place in the GPAC in 2024, the Concordia University softball program earned a slew of GPAC All-Conference awards. As announced May 7, nine Bulldogs earned 2024 All-GPAC accolades with the first team mention for junior pitcher Megan Eurich serving as the headliner. In addition, Head Coach Brock Culler’s squad placed four players on the conference’s second team: outfielder Aubrey Bruning, catcher Taylor Glause, designated player Aubriana Krieser and first baseman Kylie Shottenkirk. There were also four honorable mention selections from Concordia - Jennifer Katz, Laycee Josoff, Julia Van Wey and Delanie Voshell.
Concordia University junior Tessa Blough earned high distinction from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The native of Cody, Wyo., was named Central Regional Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship award winner May 6 by the ITA. In addition, both of Head Coach Lisa Hart’s men’s and women’s tennis squads earned ITA Community Service Award Winner Honorable Mention status.
One of the most accomplished student-athletes in Concordia University men’s golf program history, Drew D’Ercole pulled in another accolade May 8. The league office announced D’Ercole as a 2023-24 GPAC All-Conference First Team selection. The Papillion native has earned his fourth career all-conference award. The selections are voted upon by league coaches.
Named the 2022-23 GPAC Newcomer of the Year, Concordia University women’s golf standout Emery Custer has earned recognition from the league office for the second straight year. On May 8, the conference announced Custer as a 2023-24 GPAC All-Conference Second Team selection. The honorees are voted upon by league coaches.
A total of 13 Bulldogs from the GPAC championship Concordia University baseball team were recognized by the GPAC May 8. Co-GPAC Players of the Year Joey Grabanski and Jaidan Quinn headlined the list. Additional major awards went to Ryan Dupic, the GPAC Coach of the Year, and Matt Rhoades, the GPAC Freshman of the Year. Grabanski, Quinn and Rhoades were joined on the All-GPAC First Team by Alec Blakestad and Jay Adams. Meanwhile, second team accolades were handed out to pitchers Christian Gutierrez and Jacob Lycan and to Ty Nekoliczak and Tanner Tompkins. Three others earned honorable mention status - Jimmy Blumberg, Brad Hallock and Caden Johnson.
