Seward honors POWs, MIA

It’s a message no family member wants to receive: Your soldier is missing.
It was common, however, during war. Some of the soldiers were found as prisoners of war. Some were never found. In fact, acccording to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, more than 81,600 soldiers from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the Gulf War and other conflicts are still missing.

Hostage situation resolved

A hostage situation occurred the morning of Sept. 23 in Pleasant Dale as a result of a domestic dispute, in which one suspect, Trenton Engel, was taken into custody.

Kolterman honored

Clark Kolterman of Seward was awarded the Nebraska Speech, Communication, and Theatre Association Gerald S. Oswald Outstanding Service Award Sept. 20 in Kearney. As a teacher at Seward High, Kolterman gave decades of contributions to education, speech, and play production, as well as continued involvement through judging and getting kids engaged and involved in these activities. He is pictured with Becky Stahr of York and Jenni Erhart of Osceola.

TOMORROW - Birthday meal

The monthly birthday meal at the Milford Senior Center will be Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 11:45 a.m. The meal, from Pizza Kitchen, will be ham balls, scalloped potatoes, carrots and a dinner roll. Entertainment following the meal at 12:45 will be Joe Taylor, known as Mr. Memories.

TOMORROW - Flu shots in Utica

The MHCS Flu Crew will offer flu vaccinations at the Utica Senior Center on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 10 – 10:30 a.m. For your convenience, download the flu vaccine form by visiting www.mhcs.us and bring the completed form with you along with your insurance card.

TOMORROW - LWV to meet

The League of Women Voters of Seward County will host a “get acquainted” social gathering at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Red Path Gallery in Seward. Appetizers and a beverage will be provided. In addition to discussing this fall’s election events, members will share the non-partisan, nonprofit organization’s mission and history of advocating for voting rights and voter education for more than 100 years. The organization is open to men and women.
