Weidel returns to Malcolm

The principal’s job at Malcolm Public School was a homecoming, of sorts, for Simon Weidel. Weidel student taught at Malcolm with Becky Densberger while he was a student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Now he’s back in the district as the principal. Junior districts start today

The area American Legion junior baseball teams will start postseason tournaments today. Seward Post 33 ZKE Storage is the No. 2 seed in the B4 tournament at Elkhorn Mt. Michael. Seward will play Waterloo-Valley Post 58 at 4 p.m. Friday. Milford Post 171 is the No. 5 seed in the B5 tournament at Central City. The team will play Bank of the Valley Post 283 at noon today. Malcolm Post 354 is the top seed and host of the C4 district tournament. They will play the winner of Wilber Post 101/Friend Post 183 at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 13.

TOMORROW - Farmers market open for business

The Seward Farmers Market will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Seward County Fairgrounds, east of the horseshoe pits.

TOMORROW - B Street Band takes bandshell stage

The B Street Band, which is rooted in Milford and plays classic rock and country music, performed in Seward’s inaugural Fifth Street Concert Series in 2023 and returns to the bandshell stage Saturday, July 13, from 5 – 8 p.m.

TOMORROW - Fun run in Malcolm

The Malcolm Cross Country team will host the Brie Walklin Fun Run Saturday, July 13, at Larry Murray Park in Malcolm starting at 9:30 a.m. Entry fee is $15 for adults and $8 for kids for a one-mile walk/run or a three-mile run. Proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

SUNDAY - Potato bake in Utica

The Utica Senior Center will host a potato bake Sunday, July 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

SUNDAY - Band concert (venue change)

The Seward Municipal Band will play its weekly concert Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Weller Hall on the Concordia campus because of the predicted high heat index.

FUNERAL SERVICE

KUHL, Robert

The memorial service for Robert Kuhl will be Saturday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at Volzke Funeral Home in Seward. A private committal will be at the Beaver Crossing Cemetery.
