If the weather allows, beginning Thursday, May 9, the first phase of construction from Highway 34 south will open to traffic. The next phase will close the southbound lane on Highway 15 from Bradford Avenue to the north side of the Highway 34/15 intersection. Northbound traffic will detour to Second Street, while southbound will continue on the highway. Jackson Street will be closed for construction, but Seward Street will stay open for east/west traffic.

Gives week begins tomorrow

Seward County Gives Week activities begin tomorrow, May 4. The Nebraska National Guard Museum will host live music and dessert at 7 p.m. On Sunday, May 5, events include breakfast at the Staplehurst Volunteer Fire Department (8a-noon), a fundraiser at the Milford Pizza Kitchen for Kiwanis (11a-1p), the Milford Childhood Learning Center tours and ribbon cutting (3-6p) and s'mores in Milford at 5:30p. Concordia University will host its graduation ceremony Saturday, May 4, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Walz Arena.

CU walks off Mount Marty to open GPAC tournament

In opening its postseason run, the 19th-ranked Concordia University baseball team came all the way back from a 9-1 hole and celebrated not long before the stroke of midnight when Joey Grabanski supplied a laser of a walk-off RBI single in the 11th inning May 2. The Bulldogs beat Mount Marty 10-9 in 11 innings. Three innings earlier, Jaidan Quinn evened the score with a two-run bomb to center field.

SHS falls in district play

The Seward baseball team couldn't get its offense going in a late-night battle against Blair yesterday, falling 5-0 in the first round of district play.

CM season ends in opening round

The Crete-Milford baseball team saw its 2024 season end May 2 in a 3-2 loss to Beatrice in the first round of district play. CM outhit Beatrice 6-4.

The Centennial baseball team scored the first run of the game but couldn't stay with Douglas County West May 2 in the opening round of the postseason. CHS lost 19-5.

Clippers advance with shut-out win

The Malcolm baseball team outhit Maxwell/St. Patrick's 10-2 May 2 and got the win 12-0 to advance in the district tournament. The Clippers will host GACC/West Point Beemer at 5 p.m. today in the championship game.
