Longtime Concordia supporters make surprise donation to university

Concordia Nebraska Music Department Chair Dr. Kurt von Kampen and Professor of Music Dr. Elizabeth Grimpo didn't think much about the advancement meeting they had been asked to participate in on July 18. After they sat down with Vice President of Institutional Advancement Derek Engelbart and Senior Director of Development and Engagement Scott Seevers, their meeting was interrupted by a driver seeking help with a delivery to the university's music building. New SPD program brings peace of mind

A program started in Virginia in 1999 has made its way to Seward.
Called Project Lifesaver, it’s designed to help protect children with a tendency to wander. Those with autism are the primary beneficiaries of the program, Sgt. Russ Frazey of the Seward Police Department said. Find out more in the Oct. 2 Independent.

Cross country
Area cross country teams were in action at the UNK Invite in Kearney yesterday. The Seward girls' team finished third in Class B, led by Tessa Greisen's 13th-place finish. Micah Royuk led the boys' team in 40th.
In Class C, Avery Carter of Milford finished third and the Eagles were 10th in the boys' team standings. Elsa Schweitzer was 55th to lead the Milford girls. For Malcolm, Cameron Schumacher placed 113th in the boys' race, and Lena Schmidt was 72nd in the girls' competition.

In Class D, Carter Fritz placed 17th to lead the Centennial boys' team, which finished 10th. Marley Olson was the top CHS girls' finisher in 31st.

EVENTS

TODAY - Discussion and book signing

Timothy S. Goeglein will discuss “Faith and Public Life: Why They Go Together in the American Experience,” Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6:30 p.m. in Thom Auditorium on the Concordia University campus. CU President Dr. Bernard Bull will moderate the talk. After the talk, Goeglein will sign his book, “Toward a More Perfect Union: The Moral and Cultural Case for Teaching the Great American Story.” The event is free and open to the public.

TOMORROW - Chair yoga in Utica

Chair yoga will be offered Wednesdays and Fridays at 12:10 p.m. at the Utica Senior Center. There is no class the third Wednesday of the month.

TOMORROW - Yoga class meets in Milford

Different yoga classes are offered weekly at the Milford Senior Center, led by Kelly Haney. Offerings include: Adaptive Yoga on Mondays at 9 a.m.; Assisted Yoga on Wednesdays at 9 a.m.; and Next Level Yoga on Fridays at 9 a.m.

TOMORROW - G.I. Cup of Joe

A veterans coffee will be every Wednesday from 7:30 – 9:30-ish at the Spare Time Lounge in Seward.

Mass of Christian Burial for Donald "Boomer" Karpisek will be Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, David City.

Visitation for Donna Meredith will be today, Oct. 1, from 9-10 a.m. at Lauber Funeral Home in Friend. The funeral service is today at 10 a.m., also at the funeral home, with interment to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Atlanta Cemetery, Tobias.
