The Milford community is celebrating the opening of a new childcare facility, the Milford Childhood Learning Center, a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit childcare center founded to combat Nebraska's severe shortage of childcare options.

Forty organizations will participate in the third annual Seward County Gives week May 4-9, with the goal of raising money for 40 different projects that will benefit area residents.
Giving begins Saturday, May 4, and will run through Thursday, May 9, with special events throughout the week.

Sam Schroeder, a Seward High graduate and rising junior at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, was elected student body president at UNK for next year. Part of that position is serving as a student regent.

More than 70 participants took part in the Color Run event April 25 at Milford High School as a fundraiser for the school’s Close-Up program. More information about the event is in the May 1 Milford Times.
Both the Seward County Independent and the Milford Times won multiple awards at the annual Better Newspaper Contest. The Nebraska Press Association's convention was Friday and Saturday, with awards announced Saturday night. Check out the list of awards in today's papers.
The Seward County Historical Society Museum will begin its summer schedule Thursday, May 2. It is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1:30 – 5 p.m.
The Seward County Genealogical Society is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Fridays from 3 – 5 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or by appointment. The Milford High Drama Department presents The Spongebob Musical Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, at MHS. Friday night's performance starts at 7 p.m., with Saturday shows at 3 and 7 p.m. Tickets are available through the MHS office, (402) 761-2525, and at the door based on availability.
