Changes coming to construction zone

Weather permitting, on June 28, the downtown phase of construction from US-34 north to Bradford Street will be open to traffic normal two-lane two-way traffic. Eastbound and westbound traffic on US-34 will also be open to normal 4-lane two-way traffic. Both N-15 and US-34 will remain open to traffic through July 7.
Beginning on July 8, the southbound lane of N-15 will be closed from US-34 to Pinewood Avenue with southbound only traffic being maintained in the northbound lane. Northbound traffic will be detoured using US-34, 2nd Street and Pinewood Ave. Trucks will be detoured using the truck route N-66, N-79 and US-34. This phase of construction is expected to be complete prior to Oct. 1.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, put phones down and pay attention to construction and detour signs.

Authors, artists to be featured

More than 20 authors and 10 artists will be on the north side of the courthouse square Saturday, June 29, from 2-4 p.m. with books and artwork for sale. Authors will also be signing books. The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow at the Red Path Gallery.

Red, White and Bloom - sixth annual tour is tomorrow

The sixth annual Red, White and Bloom Garden Tour will be Saturday, June 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Four gardens in the Seward area will be open for visitors. Tickets are available at Liberty House Bed and Breakfast. Part of the proceeds are used for family passes at the Seward Swimming Pool.

TODAY - Genealogical Society open

The Seward County Genealogical Society is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Fridays from 3 – 5 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or by appointment. The organization is located at 233 Jackson Ave., Seward. Phone (402) 400-5250.

TOMORROW - Farmers market open for business

The Seward Farmers Market will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Seward County Fairgrounds, east of the horseshoe pits. Among the items now ready are rhubarb, lettuce, peas, beets and mulberries.

SUNDAY - Band concert

The Seward Municipal Band will play its weekly concert Sunday, June 30, at 7:30 p.m. at the bandshell. In case of inclement weather, check the band's Facebook page or Seward Community Chat for changes in venue.

SUNDAY - Decor to be judged

The Seward Rotary Club and the SHS Future Business Leaders of America are again sponsoring the annual July Fourth Outdoor Holiday Home Decorating Contest for Seward. The contest will judge both daytime and nighttime decorations. The judging will be Sunday, June 30, at 6 p.m. and the winners’ names and addresses will be placed in the Seward County Independent. Malcolm shuts out Milford

The Malcolm Legion juniors held Milford to two hits while scoring 18 runs themselves June 27. Cayden Robotham hit a home run and drove in four for Malcolm. He also struck out nine in three innings pitching. Westin DeLong and Gabe Mach had Milford's hits.

Visitation for Jonathan Luethke will be Monday, July 1, from 1-8:30 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The funeral service will be Tuesday, July 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Staplehurst.

EWBANK, Braden

The funeral service for Braden Ewbank will be today, June 28, at 10 a.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home. Graveside service and interment will be at 10:45 a.m. at the Seward Cemetery.
