The Seward Rotary Club and the SHS Future Business Leaders of America are again sponsoring the annual July Fourth Outdoor Holiday Home Decorating Contest for Seward. The contest will judge both daytime and nighttime decorations. The judging will be Sunday, June 30, at 6 p.m. and the winners’ names and addresses will be placed in the Seward County Independent. On Tuesday, July 3, area children are invited to Seward Memorial Library from 9 a.m. to noon to learn about construction in the community and meet some of the workers from Constructors and the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Activities include exploring construction equipment, making handprints and writing in concrete and free snow cones.

During June and July, embark on the adventure of a lifetime with your wagon train in our Oregon Trail Escape Room at the Seward Memorial Library. Participants must RSVP and sign up has begun. Time slots vary so call or come by the library to register. It is recommended that children 9 and under have an adult with them, but all ages are welcome.

The Seward Legion Post 33 ZKE Storage juniors and Lincoln Christian played seven full innings June 26 and couldn't determine a winner, ending the game in a 0-0 tie. Seward had four hits - singles by Kolton Green, Quin Berner, Bostyn Happ and Tyler Hammond.
The Seward Legion Post 33 ZKE Storage seniors scored two runs in the top of the seventh and had the tying run on second but couldn't score in a 3-2 loss to Lincoln Christian June 26. Kolton Loos hit a double for Seward, and Reggie Sukup drove in a run.
The Malcolm Legion juniors defeated Nebraska City 17-7 June 26. Carson Frank doubled and drove in four, and Chase Smith doubled and drove in three for Malcolm. Each had two hits, as did Brixon Meyer and Gavin Little.
The Malcolm Legion seniors allowed no hits and no runs in an 11-0 win over Nebraska City June 26. Mason Wisnieski was 2-3 with a triple and a home run and drove in five runs for Malcolm. Carson Frank was 1-3 with a home run and three RBIs.
Visitation for Braden Ewbank will be today, June 27, from 1-8 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. The funeral service will be tomorrow, June 28, at 10 a.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home. Graveside service and interment will be at 10:45 a.m. at the Seward Cemetery.
