Making snow cone connections

On a hot summer day, the Seward pool always seems to be the place to be, but the waterslide, the diving board and a chance to cool off in the water are not the only reason why people stop by.

About three years ago, Megan Boggs and her family purchased a snow cone business that operates out of a building connected to the pool and has a shaved ice trailer that they take to special events and created B’s Sweet Freeze.

“We talked about it on a family trip, actually. And when we got back we decided let's go for it.” Boggs said.

Many young kids at the pool enjoy the snacks and slushies provided to them.

“I feel like the sizes are good. Even the small is pretty filling and they have a wide variety of flavors.” Emerson Rucker said.

It is not just the food itself that makes it a great place, but the staff there as well.

“They’re all nice. Most of them go to school with us. Some of them are in my grade.” Izzy Mason said.

Boggs has been very happy to get to know her customers.

“Over the last three years, I feel like we've gotten to know a lot of the kids that frequent the pool.” Boggs said. “We have about seven or eight high school kids that help us out here, and almost all of them have worked for us every summer.”

B’s Sweet Freeze is at the Dowding Municipal Pool at 167 N. 14th St. and is open 1 – 5 p.m. every day except Sunday, when it is open from 2 – 6 p.m.
