Site adds volunteer opportunities

In an effort to locate and encourage more volunteers, the Seward Fourth of July Celebration Committee has enlisted the help of the JUSTSERVE program for volunteer recruitment.   Individuals interested in being volunteers can go through the JUSTSERVE”website and sign up for one or more areas of service.

To access the Seward site, visit www.justserve.org/SewardFourthofJulyCelebration.  The offerings currently include assisting with the Car Show, the Shuttle/Trolley Service, the Grand Parade, the Information Center or with the entertainment as a host at Olde Glory or the Rivoli Theater.

The program was explained by the creator of the Seward program, Ben Nottingham, a senior at Seward High.  He created the various service opportunities.  It can also be accessed on the Seward Fourth of July Celebration’s new website, www.julyfourthseward.com, under “Get Involved.”

“We are very grateful for Ben Nottingham’s volunteer effort to create this way to acquire more volunteers for our community event,” Clark Kolterman, Event Chair, said. “Special thanks also to JUSTSERVE’S Ron and Kathy Hill of Lincoln, for working with Ben to make this volunteer vehicle possible. They were convinced it would work and it is an exciting addition to our volunteer effort.”

Another way to volunteer, if you are uncomfortable with the computer,  is to contact the Seward Chamber Office at (402) 643-4189 and they can direct you to the specific volunteer area requested.

“We encourage everyone to visit the JUSTSERVE website and join in and volunteer for an hour or two on July Fourth,” Gerald Meyer with the Nebraska National Guard Museum said.  “Become part of the action - plus it is fun to work together to host the big day for Seward.”
