Robin R. Winter

March 14, 1956 – Jan. 23, 2018

Robin Randall Winter was born in Ames, Iowa, on March 14, 1956, to Dr. Byron and Glenna Winter. He graduated from Seward High School in 1974, from Iowa State University in 1979 with a forestry degree and from the University of Nebraska as a mechanical engineer. Robin went to Eugene, Oregon, in 1979 and worked for a lumber company as a forester. He returned to Nebraska to get an engineering degree and worked at Isco in Lincoln until he moved back to Newberg, Oregon, in December 1993. There he worked as senior engineer for A-Dec until his retirement in October 2016.

Robin got married in November 1980 to Cathy DeChaine. He adopted her daughter, Jocelyn, and they had four daughters together, Jackie, Jessica, Jordan and Janelle. They divorced in 1996. Robin remarried in 2005 to Melissa Filter, who had three sons, Kevin, Stephen and Clayton, from previous marriages.

Robin had property in Newberg with plenty of land and two houses standing on it. He felt compassion and a deep sense of mission to provide modest housing for people who needed a little help to get back on their feet again. He also enjoyed growing poplar trees for harvesting, planting various fruits and vegetables for personal consumption and developing numerous water conservation systems for his green houses and trees. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, motorcycling and traveling.

Robin is survived by his sister, Cynthia Winter of Seward; and brothers, Bruce Winter of Omaha and David Winter of Lincoln.

A celebration of life service was held in Newberg, Oregon, on Feb. 23. Robin will be buried in Seward at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Robin’s name to the Salvation Army or United Way.

It could be said of Robin, “A friend to any and all, a heart of compassion, laughter his companion and never a dull moment.”
