Seward golf course welcomes new manager

The Seward Community Golf Course has welcomed a new golf shop manager.

Cody Herald, originally of Central City, began as the shop manager on June 5.

He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated from the PGA golf management program. After, he earned his PGA card, which is like a certificate that states he has learned what it takes to run a golf course.

Herald also said he can provide golf lessons.

But Herald said he didn’t start out playing golf. Instead, he played baseball up until his freshman year of high school.

Herald said he was burned out on baseball, so he tried golf.

“I’ve been playing ever since,” Herald said.

He added that he decided to turn golf into a career when he first learned UNL had the PGA program.

“I decided at that point, it was something I’d be happy doing my whole life,” Herald said.

Because he’s from a small town himself, Herald said he had envisioned himself working somewhere like Seward.

“I’m just a small-town kid. This type of facility is what I saw myself going towards,” he said.
