Transplant draws mother, daughter closer

When Traci Prochaska’s mother, Julie, needed a kidney transplant, Traci did not think twice about making a life-saving donation. Now, she gets to watch her mother’s health improve every day.  Read more about these two women in the Sept. 18 Independent.

Study looks at lodging needs

The Seward County Visitors Bureau and the Seward County Chamber and Development Partnership are studying whether Seward County needs more lodging opportunities. Find out more in the Sept. 18 Independent.

Programs remember POWs

The Seward area’s prisoners of war will be recognized with a program at the Nebraska National Guard Museum in Seward on Friday, Sept. 20, in recognition of National Prisoners of War (POW) Day. The day will feature exhibits honoring local veterans who were POWs and offer family focused presentations on them by family and friends.
There will be two programs on Friday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m. The events are free and open to the public. A reception and complimentary refreshments will follow the presentation. TODAY - Put on dancing shoes

The Seward Memorial Library will host line dancing classes Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Jacki Mason will demonstrate new steps as well as dance to some old favorites. Line dancing continues through Nov. 14.

TODAY - Car club meets

The next regular meeting of the Seward Good Life Car Club will be Thursday, Sept. 19, at SpareTime pavilion in Seward at 6:30 p.m. (note the time change). Car enthusiasts are always welcome.

TODAY - Committee to meet

The Seward Fourth of July Community Celebration monthly meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Nebraska National Guard Museum in Seward. The meeting is open to all volunteers interested in organizing and planning Seward’s July 4th celebration. TOMORROW - Furniture and stuff sale

Concordia University will have a no-longer-needed furniture and random stuff sale on Friday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. The sale will be in the lower level of Jesse Hall in the center of campus. Half of the proceeds will go to support Concordia students going on mission outreach trips this coming year.

TOMORROW - Just for Fun Friday

Programs for adults are planned at the Seward Memorial Library every Friday from 1:30 – 3 p.m. First Friday, Ten Point Pitch. Second Friday, Bingo. Third Friday, crafts. Fourth Friday, puzzles. Tomorrow is the third Friday of September.

SATURDAY - Programs talks blended families

Many issues exclusive to blended families begin to take tolls on relationships, joy, peace and stability. Moe and Paige Becnel will share how they found resolution to problems in transforming their family of five into a whole family on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Heart to Heart Ministries, 105 S. FUNERAL SERVICES

MANZER, Sally

Visitation for Sally Manzer will be today, Sept. 19, from 5-7 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Seward. Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 20, at noon at Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Atkinson, followed by interment at the church cemetery.
