Kinship Pointe celebrates big on Grandparents Day

Grandparents' Day was Sunday, Sept. 8, and Kinship Pointe's annual bash brought fun for all ages. Read the Seward County Independent on Wednesday, Sept. 18, to learn about the event and what it does for the senior living residents there.

Bridge work set to start Monday

The bridge over the West Fork Big Blue River on Pioneers Road east of 413th is scheduled to be replaced this fall. Work on the bridge is set to begin Monday, Sept. 16. Due to the bridge replacement, Pioneers Road between 413th and 406th will be closed during this time. Detours will be put in place for the duration of the bridge replacement project.

Cross country
The Milford boys' team won the Milford Invite, edging Minden by one point. Avery Carter of Milford was the event champion, finishing in 16:34.4.
In the girls' race, Grace Schernikau of Centennial was the top local finisher, placing third in 21:46.3.
Area teams competing included Milford, Centennial, Malcolm, Wilber-Clatonia and Exeter-Milligan-Friend.

TODAY - Friday Fun at SML

Programs for adults are planned at the Seward Memorial Library every Friday from 1:30 – 3 p.m. starting Sept. 6. First Friday of the month, Ten Point Pitch. Second Friday, Bingo. Third Friday, crafts. Fourth Friday, puzzles. This is the second Friday, so bingo is featured.

TODAY - Constitution topic of speaker

Honoring the 10th anniversary of the Nebraska National Guard Museum, the Nebraska National Guard Historical Society will present “Our U.S. Constitution,” featuring Constitution Educator Sheila Collins, on Friday, Sept. 13. One-hour programs are at 10:05 a.m. and 1:35 p.m. The programs are free and open to the public.

TOMORROW - Church celebrates anniversary

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica will celebrate its 125th anniversary with events Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15. Featured events include a family festival from 4 – 8 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday a worship service followed by fellowship and story hour.

TOMORROW - Farmer's market open Saturday

The Seward Farmers Market will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Seward County Fairgrounds. Check out the fresh produce and other items available.

SUNDAY - Denim and Diamonds

Tickets are now available for the “Denim and Diamonds” Gala on Sunday, Sept. 15, beginning at 4 p.m. The event at the Seward County Fairgrounds’ Harvest Hall benefits the Seward United Methodist Church’s south addition project which improved accessibility to the church’s sanctuary, restrooms and offices, as well as adding a new entrance and opening space for an additional classroom in the Bright Beginnings Child Development Center. The B Street Band will provide entertainment at the event, and both silent and live auctions are featured. MONDAY - Kennel Club schedules classes

The Seward County Kennel Club will host dog obedience classes beginning Monday, Sept. 16, at the 4-H Center on the Seward County Fairgrounds. Class sizes are limited, and a fee will be charged. Pre-registration should be done at www.sewardcountykennelclub.com.

A celebration of life for Mitzi Myers-Nannen will be Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. at Milford High School.

Family and friends of Marvin Plamann will gather Sunday, Sept. 15, from 3-5 p.m. at Volzke Funeral Home in Seward. The funeral service will be Monday, Sept. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Committal will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
