Never forget

The Seward Volunteer Fire Department continues to remember the events of Sept. 11, 2001, and honor those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania that day, displaying its flag on its ladder truck every year. In the past, the truck has been parked at the Civic Center, but this year it is across from the Parade of Flags on east Highway 34.

Rick Newman was an 18-year-old living in Rogers, Arkansas, who wanted to do something greater. One week before the planes hit the towers, Newman passed all the tests and signed up for four years in the United States Air Force. Read more of his story in the Sept. 11 Independent.
