Construction, weather impact Seward's trees

The sound of chain saws has been common around Seward County this summer. Severe storms, drought, the arrival of emerald ash borers, utility work, and Seward’s Highway 15 project have required the trimming – and often removal – of trees. Read more in the Sept. 11 Independent.

Rood breaks record again

Seward High School graduate Jesse Rood solidified his spot as the Guinness World Record title-holder for farthest ax throw in April of 2024.

TODAY - Book discussion planned

The year’s One Book/ One Nebraska book discussion is planned Monday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Seward Memorial Library. The book, “Dancing with the Octopus,” is a haunting and inspiring story of a teenager’s fight to survive. Everyone is welcome to attend.

TOMORROW - Food distribution

The Lincoln Food Bank will distribute food from the St. John Lutheran Church fellowship hall on the second Tuesday of each month, from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

TOMORROW - Grief support group

Tabitha hosts a grief support group the second Tuesday of every month at 5 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Seward. To register, call Tabitha at (402) 362-7739.

TOMORROW - Learn to macrame

An opportunity to learn how to macrame will be Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 6:30 – 7:45 p.m. at the Seward Memorial Library. Macrame is done without the use of specialized tools, just using your hands to weave wonderful creations. Registration is required so call (402) 643-3318 to reserve a spot.

The funeral service for Arvin Faig will be Monday, Sept. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica. Committal will be in the Utica Cemetery.
