In-person voting has begun for Nov. 5 election

Early in-person voting for the general election began Oct. 7 at Nebraska county election offices. Nebraskans can vote early in person at their county election office through Nov. 4. Voting in person at the county election offices is not available on Election Day, Nov. 5.

Hladky maps county for 45 years

Property owners, surveyors and others who need information on property assessments have spent time at this counter with Seward County Assessor Marilyn Hladky over the past 45 years. Starting as a clerk, Hladky served as deputy assessor before being elected assessor in 1994.

Eberly honored for service

Jim Eberly was named the October veteran of the month in Seward County.
Jim Eberly was named the October veteran of the month in Seward County.
Jim Eberly and his family settled in Milford in 1962, and he later graduated from high school in 1966. Both of his younger brothers also served in the military as Marines. Teams play for state berths

Seward's and Milford's softball teams will take the field tomorrow in best-of-three district final series, with the winners advancing to the state tournament next week. Seward will play Crete in Crete starting at noon, while Milford heads to Hastings to play Hastings St. Cecilia starting at 10 a.m.

CU goalie named player of week

Concordia University’s Nolan Fuelberth was honored for the third time this season by the league office Oct. 9. Awarded the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for his play from Sept. 30-Oct. 6, Fuelberth claimed his third shutout of the season.

TODAY - QPR training

QPR Suicide Prevention Training will be offered Thursday, Oct. 10, from 5-6:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Seward. Contact the office at (402) 643-3829 for more information. QPR stands for question, persuade, refer. The training is free, and registration is not required.

TODAY - Republicans to meet

Seward County Republicans will meet Thursday, Oct. 10, at The Rock. Social hour at 6 p.m. and U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer will speak at 7 p.m.

TODAY - Gathering Table

Make plans to meet at The Gathering Table (Milford Mennonite Fellowship Hall at 920 F St). The table is set on the second Thursday of each month for this complementary meal. Come anytime between 5:30 and 7 p.m.

The Seward County Historical Society Museum is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1:30 – 5 p.m. through October.

The Seward County Genealogical Society is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Fridays from 3 – 5 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or by appointment. A business meeting is the third Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. The organization is located at 233 Jackson Ave., Seward. Phone (402) 400-5250.

TOMORROW - Flu shots in Seward

Memorial Health Care Systems will host a flu shot clinic Friday, Oct. 11, from 1-2 p.m. at the Seward Senior Center. You can download the flu vaccine form at www.mhcs.us to bring with you. You should also bring your insurance card.

The funeral service for Lucille Cross will be Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church. Graveside services and interment will follow at 3 p.m. at the Utica Cemetery.
