Seward utility rates to rise

Seward residents will see higher rates for water, wastewater and electrical services on their October bills.

Kiwanis Gov. John Boltz and Lt. Gov. David Boeckner were the special guests in attendance at the Nebraska National Guard Museum for the ceremony. The meeting featured welcoming new members, special presentations of awards and installation of board members. See more in the Oct. 16 Independent.

Bryn Christensen of Seward is tied for 24th after day one. She shot a 94 at Monument Shadows Golf Course in Gering. Teammate Blair Briggs is tied for 53rd after shooting a 103 yesterday.

TODAY - Empty Bowl soup luncheon

The Seward Kiwanis will host its Empty Bowl soup luncheon Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Harvest Hall. Tickets for lunch, dessert and a bowl from Down Under Pottery may be purchased at Cattle Bank, Jones Bank or Union Bank.

TODAY - Alzheimer’s support group to meet

Tobin Beck, assistant professor of journalism and political science at Concordia University, will share ways voters can work through the flood of information and disinformation at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Seward Memorial Public Library. The free, public program is hosted by the League of Women Voters and co-sponsored by the library.

TOMORROW - Yoga classes

Different yoga classes are offered weekly at the Milford Senior Center, led by Kelly Haney. Offerings include: Adaptive Yoga on Mondays at 9 a.m.; Assisted Yoga on Wednesdays at 9 a.m.; and Next Level Yoga on Fridays at 9 a.m.

FUNERAL SERVICES

SCHROEDER, Rev. Dr. Daniel

Visitation for the Rev. Dr. Daniel Schroeder will be today, Oct. 15, from 6-8 p.m. at Mighty Fortress Evangelical Lutheran Church in Seward. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Interment will be Oct. 17 at 9 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Lincoln.
