Milford comes up short in three on field

The Milford Post 171 legion juniors battled hard in three games on the diamond but fell short in each. Milford lost to Chick-Fil-A 13-2 June 11, to ETC 19-4 June 13 and to Waterloo-Valley 13-5 June 14.

Chick-Fil-A’s pitching held the Milford batters in check, allowing just three hits in the game, all singles. Conner Chapman and Max Roth pitched for Milford, combining for six strikeouts.

Milford’s runs came in the third and fourth innings, but CFA scored seven in the third to pull away.

ETC had its bats going early, scoring seven runs in the first inning and finishing the game with 19 hits. ETC led 7-0 after the first inning.

Milford batters recorded four hits, including a double by Zach Parra and a triple by Jax Hansen. Parra, Hansen and Brett Bousquet each drove in a run. Hansen’s triple drove in the first run of the game for Milford in the second, and Bousquet hit a sacrifice fly to score Hansen.

In the third, Chapman scored on a ground out and Parra drove in DeLong with a double.

Post 171 saw its bats come to live against WV, recording 11 hits in the game. Hansen, Parra, Bousquet and Westin DeLong had two hits each, and Bousquet drove in a pair of runs.

Trayton Nelson and Roth joined forces on the mound, combining for five strikeouts.

Milford scored three in the top of the fifth. With one out, Parra singled to drive in Hansen and load the bases. Bousquet then singled to center to drive in two.

Post 171 (1-13) was scheduled to play at Dwight June 18. Its next scheduled game is Thursday, June 27, at Malcolm.
