Post 33 battles on diamond

The Seward Post 33 ZKE Storage seniors shook off a pair of one-run losses in a 9-0 win June 16.

Seward opened the week June 11 with a 7-6 loss at Empire Netting & Fence of Waverly. Seward rallied from a 6-1 deficit to tie the score at 6-6 in the top of the seventh, but Waverly scored one in the bottom of the inning to send Post 33 home on the short end of the score.

Braiden herring and Carl Taylor each hit doubles for Seward, and Taylor drove in two runs.

Finn Hochstein sruck out seven in 4.1 inings, and Collin Nagel added three strikeouts in two innings.

Seward was back on the road June 12 at Waterloo-Valley and gave up a run in the seventh for the 9-8 walk-off WV win. Hochstein, Taylor and Cale Gardiner had two hits each, and Hochstein and Gardiner drove in two runs.

Post 33 hosted SOS June 16 and held the Rebels to just one hit in a 9-0 home victory. Reggie Sukup got things started for Seward with a triple and scored on a passed ball. Seward added three more runs in the first, three in the second and one each in the third and fourth.

Sukup, Hochstein, Gardiner and Conner Sveeggen had two hits each. Kolton Loos and Sveeggen drove in two runs apiece.

Carter Ernesti pitched all five innings and struck out five.

Post 33 (8-5) is scheduled to host Auburn June 18 and Crete Wednesday, June 19, at 8 p.m. The next game on the schedule is Wednesday, June 26, at Nemaha.

Juniors play in Omaha

The Seward Post 33 ZKE Storage juniors had a busy week, opening with a 19-0 win over Waterloo-Valley June 12 and then going 0-4 in the Battle of Omaha.

Seward lost to the St. Louis Redbirds 8-5, Eden Prairie 4-2, Cornhusker Heating and Air 20-8 and Kansas Curve 7-0.

In the win over WV, Seward recorded 13 hits, led by three each from Bostyn Happ, Karson Dyer and Tyler Hammond. Kyle Riley was 2-3 and drove in four.

The Post 33 juniors (10-6-1) were scheduled to host Hastings and Auburn June 18 and Crete Wednesday, June 19, at 5 p.m. The next scheduled game is Tuesday, June 25, at home against Beatrice.

Prep falls at home

The Seward ZKE Post 33 Prep team (0-5) lost its one game this week, falling to ETC 17-1 June 14.

The ETC pitching held Post 33 without a hit, but the team managed a run in the second inning.
